The Invasion of Silgate
A deep thrumming echos through the darkness across the walled city of
Silgate. A great, hovering mass of earth and stone slowly drifts over the
southern gate and the night guards crane their necks to watch the volt
primordian city pass overhead. They've never heard of a Volt fortress
flying this low before. The hum of its ancient turbines saturates the city
and disturbed residents begin waking up and walking outside to locate the
source.
Quietly, the fortress stops in place, only visible as a black silhouette
blocking out the stars. A booming and heavily accented voice calls down
from the sky: "Citizens of Feylin, remain in your homes. We mean you no
harm. Do not interfere."
The stars, two by two, blink back into existence. Red and yellow and blue
and green, they descend from the edges of the fortress en mass over the
eyes of hundreds of falling primordians. The light of their goggles glints
off of their silver hair and reflective metal armor. They extend their
arms and project a static field that slows their descent, and the moment
they hit the ground they get to work.
All but one. Clad in bulkier armor than the rest, as well as a full helmet
featuring a stoic visage of Primordius himself. Glass tubes inlaid into
the armor glow a neon violet, and a glass ring floating just above his
head lights up a brilliant purple. He kneels and presses a holy symbol to
his unyielding metal lips before drawing a reflective steel war hammer
from his back. With a sharp gesture the head crackles with electricity,
and the figure begins to move with purpose towards the lord's keep.
The people of Silgate know an invasion when they see one, and they
immediately begin ignoring the vessel's commands. A priest, flanked by a
dozen nuns, exits the convent outside the walls of the keep and raises his
arms to the heavens. Ignoring the chaos surrounding him as the guards
begin clashing with the invaders he sets his sights on the primordian city
and whispers a prayer to Abednego as the nuns sing a holy incantation. The
sky lights up as if it were day and the clouds part as a beam of light 30
feet wide cascades from the firmament and cleaves a chunk of stone from
the edge of the Volt fortress, causing the thrumming to falter. The
helmeted figure quickly assesses the threat, and seems to glide along the
ground like a specter before driving his hammer through the priest's ribs.
His glass halo flickers. The sacred light fades before it can reach the
main mass of the vessel, and the invasion continues unabated.
Within an hour the primordians had breached the fortress and retrieved
their prize. Chains descend from the floating city and lift the soldiers
back up into itself. The invasion ends as quickly as it began, and the
primordians drift out of sight.
