Varieties of Pipeleaves in Glade

Orc Tobacco: Grows in extreme environments. Thick and difficult to grind. Robust and earthy flavor, but harsh on the lungs. Popular with heavy smokers for its extreme potency, as well as dragonkin whose lungs are more resistant to smoke. The scent clings to clothing. Best used to make cigars.

Halfling-Brand Pipeleaf: Produced by the Halfling family of humans on the Eastern Continent. Has a dulling effect on the mind and a sharpening effect on the senses. Often used as conversation lubricant in a similar way to alcohol. In taste it is more herbal than tobacco pipeleaf and the scent disperses quickly.

Elven Tobacco: Delicate and easy to breathe. Has a delightful and almost refreshing flavor, although its potency is relatively low. Has the effect of making one's breath smell more pleasant. Best used in hookahs.

Dwarven Mineweed: Despite the name, mineweed is actually a fungus with leaf-like appendages used to absorb moisture and whatever scarce light it can find, while the mycelium consumes guanlo. It was discovered growing alongside guanlo channels and is now grown in abundance in depleted mines alongside the glowing mushroom varieties favored by guanlo-producing bats. It has been suggested by dwarven alchemists that mineweed has a symbiotic relationship with both the bats and glowshrooms, promoting the growth of the latter to feed the former, who then produce the guanlo that the mineweed consumes. It tastes sharp and savory when smoked and has a light psychoactive effect, primarily on vision. Non-dwarves beware: mineweed is slightly toxic to most other sapient races and should be consumed responsibly.

Infernal Slope Tobacco: Grown by both infernals and the dust primordians of the far north, this product of frigid climates warms the innards while also having a chemical cooling effect on the throat. The leaves of this plant grind very easily and are ideal for the small, paper-wrapped cigars, or "gnomecigars" that many infernals love.

Gnomish Pipe-oil: The plant this oil is harvested from is wholly unrelated to tobacco and is most similar to a species colloquially known as "Poison Ivy." This oil can be vaporized, added to a filler material or even added to tobacco. When heated this oil smells like burning sugar and its effects are a tingling sensation in the lungs and extremities, an increase in energy and a mild, sweet flavor on the tongue.

Dragonfolk Flameleaf: The antithesis of the refreshing elvish tobacco and the infernal slope tobacco, this variety gives a new meaning to the phrase "breathing fire." Originally grown by dragonfolk for the exclusive consumption of dragons, it is now a symbol of liberty and shared culture among the dragonfolk. This variant of tobacco is treated with oil from the exotic "jellypenio" berry, making it supremely harsh on the throat and lungs but also supremely tasty. Its potency is fairly average, but the unique preparation method allows the nicotine to be absorbed by the hearty dragonborn and kobold lungs much more easily. This leaf is only smoked by dragonkin, fire primordians and true tobacco connoisseurs.

Moon Poppy: This rare and highly sought-after plant was bred to grow at extremely high altitudes and the flowers are said to bestow a heavenly stupor. Cloud giants are the primary recipients of this delicacy, as alcohol is hard to come by amongst the peoples of the sky. In the distant past these flowers even used as currency to pay storm giants for their service. As trade with giants is rare, the only source of these precious blooms for the people of the surface are the humble gremlings, who stand to profit if they can get a hold of any during their aerial expeditions.

Kobold Cave Moss: Much like the majority of the kobold diet, kobold cave moss is entirely unappetizing to most other races. It has been described as having a moldy flavor and it seems to leave behind a damp, slimy texture in the mouth. This is to the kobold's benefit, however, as it is also unpalatable to dragons. This means that what they can find, they can keep. This moss grows with very little care required and is spread from region to region as kobolds migrate with their dragons. The effects of smoking or otherwise consuming this moss are said to be stress relief, pain relief and a focusing of the mind. Potency varies wildly from colony to colony.
